Check out our new Ready, Set, Retire group sessions!
Workshops are offered in both St. Paul and in Greater Minnesota.
The Your TRA Benefits: The Teaching Years workshop offers valuable information about our benefit provisions, communication methods and financial-planning programs. Designed with the mid-career teachers in mind, this workshop explores topics such as disability and survivorship coverage, purchase of prior service and portability issues, leaves of absence and their impact on your future retirement benefit and use of the TRA web site benefit calculators.
Workshop Presentation [Updated: 8.11]
A Preparing for Retirement workshop is tailored to those members within two years of retirement to provide information about the retirement process. At this 2-hour workshop, you will be given a personalized, detailed estimate of your projected monthly retirement benefit, an explanation of how your benefit is calculated and details on each of the six available annuity plan options.
Other topics covered include: retirement eligibility and the application process, necessary forms, pension acceleration, direct deposit, benefit taxability, and an explanation of the annual benefit increases provided by the Minnesota Post-Retirement Investment Fund. Positive feedback from those who attended the workshops indicates that members learn not only from the formal presentation but also from each other during the question and answer period.

Individual counseling sessions are available on a daily basis in St. Paul, Mankato, St. Cloud and Detroit Lakes by appointment.
Members MUST schedule an appointment in order to attend a group workshop or individual counseling session.
You have two ways to reserve your spot for an individual counseling session:
Online: Choose MyTRA Login, register if you haven’t done so already, and enter your User ID and password. Now, choose Schedule an Individual Counseling Session near the bottom of the screen, select the type of session or date you prefer to attend, and complete the registration process.
Phone: Call 800.657.3669 and press “1” to connect with our appointment desk. Specify the date and location you prefer.
When you schedule an appointment, please have the following information available so an individual retirement estimate can be prepared: contract salary, amount of service credit with another Minnesota public retirement system, anticipated retirement date, and the date of birth of your spouse (if applicable).
Once your appointment has been scheduled, a confirmation letter, including a map and directions, will be mailed to your home address.
The dates and times listed represent
availability at the time of publication.
Up-to-the-minute availability can be obtained
by going to MyTRA Login, or by calling TRA.
If accommodations for a meeting are needed, under the Americans with Disabilities Act, please call 800.657.3669 or 800.627.3529 (TTY) as far in advance as possible.
For Your Security
As part of our ongoing security initiative, members will be required to present photo identification when visiting a TRA office, including satellite offices, as well as any other individual counseling and group workshop locations.
Acceptable forms of ID include a state driver’s license, state employee badge, school district ID, passport, state non-driver ID or company-issued badge with photo. As long as the photo ID presented matches the member’s identity, it need not be current, such as an expired driver’s license.
